As we all know, Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi Poornima is the day to celebrate the bond of love and togetherness between brothers and sisters. But, Tia (my 7 year old), asked me a really good question today -
So then why do we have to feed bhai (brother) sweets when tying a rakhi on him?
Well, ummm.... you know.... I think.... we should ask dad!
Dad: Tia (and mum), we give sweets to each other on all Indian festivals and as this is a special festival for brothers and sisters, they should give sweets to each other.
Sweets symbolize joy & happiness. In our culture we say 'muh mitha karo', which simply means eat something sweet & come join me in this celebration!
It also brings good luck & best wishes for your brother to be successful in life.
Tia: OK! Then can I feed him a big massive chocolate bar, so he becomes more successful every year and gives me more presents? 🎁🎁🎁
What do we say to that...... Please share your suggestions in the comments below
